Most dental practices don’t need more marketing channels. They need the basics working well: being easy to find, easy to trust and easy to book. These dental marketing ideas start there, then move on to bringing in more of the treatments you want.
1. Fix the booking path first
Before spending more on marketing, check what happens when a patient tries to book. Do the booking buttons on every page go to the same place? Does online scheduling work on a phone? Is the phone number tappable? For one dental clinic we work with, booking buttons across the site pointed to different places, and pointing all of them to online scheduling was one of the first fixes.
2. Make your Google Business Profile complete
New patients often choose a dentist from the map results. Use accurate categories, list your services, keep hours current (including evening or weekend hours if you offer them), upload real photos of your practice and team, and add a booking link if your scheduling software supports it. Post updates regularly.
3. Build a steady flow of reviews
Reviews influence which practice people call. Ask every patient after their appointment, by text or email with a direct link. When you reply, don’t confirm that the reviewer is a patient or mention treatment details, since that can disclose health information. Google doesn’t allow incentives for reviews or asking only the patients you expect to be happy.
4. Write clear treatment pages
Patients research implants, clear aligners, veneers, emergency appointments and children’s dentistry before booking. A clear page for each treatment, covering what it involves, recovery, insurance and payment options, and what to expect at the first visit, helps patients decide and gives search engines something to rank. This is the foundation of dental SEO.
5. Explain insurance and payment plainly
“Do you take my insurance?” is one of the first questions patients ask. List the plans you accept, explain what happens if a patient is out of network, and mention payment plans if you offer them. Clear answers reduce phone calls and drop-offs.
6. Run local Google Ads for high-value treatments
Google Ads works well for treatments with clear search demand, like implants, aligners and emergency dental care. Keep campaigns local, send each ad to the matching treatment page, and follow Google’s healthcare advertising policies. Track calls and online bookings so you can see cost per booked appointment, not just clicks.
7. Bring back patients who haven’t visited in a while
Lapsed patients are often the easiest to win back. A friendly reminder that they’re due for a checkup, sent by email or text through your practice management system, can fill the schedule without any ad spend.
8. Encourage referrals the right way
Happy patients refer friends and family. Make it easy with a simple thank-you and a reminder that you welcome new patients. Check your state dental board’s rules before offering any reward for referrals, since some restrict it.
9. Show your team and your practice
Many people feel anxious about visiting the dentist. Photos and short videos of your team and your practice, and answers to common questions, help new patients feel comfortable before they arrive. Don’t post identifiable patients without their written consent.
10. Track which marketing brings booked appointments
Set up tracking for calls, forms and online bookings, and review new patients by source every month. Keep tracking free of health information: count that a booking happened, not what it was for. Our tracking and CRM page explains the setup.
